Human relationships are messy things. Even in the simplified scenarios of fairy tales and nursery rhymes, relationships are complicated. Children are endangered due to the inability, short sightedness or greed of the very people who should be looking after them. Look deeper into the older variants and a whole world of horror opens up. Little Red Riding Hood does not survive and babies fall out of canopies. The stories are familiar and yet disturbing. They speak of fears and pain, but somehow hold a warmth in their tellings and retellings. It’s this uneasy world that Koo Min Ji taps into.
인간관계는 어렵다. 동화책의 단순한 시나리오나 동요에 있어서도 관계란 참 복잡하다는 것을 알 수 있다. 어린이들은 어쩔 수 없는 나약함으로, 사고의 폭이 좁은 탓으로, 혹은 그들을 돌봐야 마땅한 어른들의 욕심으로 인해 위험에 처하게 되는 경우가 많다. 늙은 변종들, 거대한 공포의 세계가 열리는 것을 보라. 동화책, ‘빨간 망토’의 아가씨는 살아남지 못하고 아이들은 창공에서 떨어진다. 아야기들은 친근란 것 같으면서도 어딘가 공포스럽다. 그것들은 두려움과 고통에 대해 말하면서도 재차 반복되면서 어떤 따뜻한 느낌에 대해 접근하고 있다.
